Street Outreach Services (S.O.S.)
Located on Yonge St. near Wellesley, Street Outreach Services provides a variety of services to hundreds of street youth involved in or at risk of becoming involved in prostitution. Most of the youth, (aged 16 - 24) are homeless and unemployed and resort to prostitution as a way of survival. The majority of these young people have histories of serious sexual abuse and alienation and have fled to the 'big city' hoping to find jobs, homes and a new life.
S.O.S. outreach workers are on the street six nights per week, providing non-judgmental information, support and referral services to assist youth who want to leave the street. Youth are referred to the S.O.S. daily drop-in program, which offers them the options of counselling services, a legal clinic, a medical clinic and safe sex education, free condoms, a needle exchange, housing support, laundry facilities, a shower, toiletries, and new and used clothing. Most importantly, they are offered hope and non-judgmental encouragement and support to help them leave street life and prostitution.
S.O.S. also runs a 5-bed, transitional, semi-independent house that provides safe housing for youth while they try to refocus their lives.
