McEwan Housing & Support Services
McEwan Housing & Support Services serves homeless individuals who are coping with HIV disease, or issues of mental health, or substance abuse.
The program has two components, the Residential Support Program, which provides housing and personal support services for 15 people, and the Community Support program which serves another 50 people in the community. Services are tailored to individual need and include assessment, goal setting, skills teaching, linking to resources, advocacy and monitoring. McEwan Housing & Support Services provides 24-hour crisis support to all of its service users.
As new medications for HIV disease have been introduced, the program has adapted its services. Although palliative care remains a necessary part of the program, there has been a growing emphasis on rehabilitative needs, including self-care, medication regimes, and household management.
