Etobicoke Girls Residence

Etobicoke Girls Residence is a residential support program for young women aged 14 to 18 years who have a history of family violence, breakdown, serious emotional conflict issues, and abuse which has left them struggling with depression, anger, self-harming, suicidal behaviours, substance abuse, abusive boy friends and conflicted, detached family relationships. EGR's services include a 24 hour, staffed group home for seven young women and affordable cooperative housing for 15 young women at three large houses in Toronto's West End.

Many of the young women who come to EGR have run from home to the refuge of shelters, stopovers at homes of friends, or in many cases, to the streets. Once at EGR, the program focuses on preparation for independent living, empowering youth to redefine themselves and to see their own strengths, rather than see themselves constantly as victims. They are supported to continue with their education or participate in job training programs.
