Dunn Avenue Supportive Housing Services

Dunn Avenue Supportive Housing Services provides 24-hour on-site supportive housing services for seniors living in a public housing apartment complex located in Toronto's Parkdale area. The Dunn Avenue apartment building, with over 698 tenants, is home to a diversity of cultures and family situations.

The Dunn Avenue Supportive Housing Services commenced in 1999, and is presently the only community support agency located in the Dunn Avenue apartment complex. Many of the more than 40 seniors who are receiving support have numerous special needs that include cognitive impairments, mental health and addiction issues, and severe social isolation. Many are extremely at-risk seniors who require support with medical issues and personal care.

The Dunn Avenue Supportive Housing program offers 24-hour on-site access to support services that makes it possible for these seniors to remain in their own homes by providing them with such essential services as personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, medication supports, escorts to appointments, laundry, care giver relief, social/emotional support and a 24-hour emergency response system. Support staff also organizes social events and activities, which have made a significant difference in the lives of the seniors, especially those who were socially isolated. Volunteers from Christ Church Deer Park (Anglican) provide a nutritious lunch once a week for many seniors at the Dunn Avenue site.
